Arrival & Dismissal Plan for Northwood Elementary

ARRIVAL
VEHICLE DROP OFF
You may drop your child off in the parent drop off/pick up loop in the back of the school by the playground from 8:55 - 9:15 AM. Please keep your child in your vehicle until you pull up to the area in the back of the school by the playground where team members will be on duty to assist students. In order to help keep the line moving, we try to unload 6-10 cars at the same time.
For our first cars in line, please wait until staff members come out and give the “okay” to start unloading at 8:55 AM. Please don’t be confused if you see SACC staff and SACC students on the playground as we will wait until 8:55 AM to start unloading vehicles. If you arrive after the tardy bell at 9:15, please park in the front and escort your child into the building as you will need to sign your child in with the office.
Please do not drop off before 8:55 AM as there is no supervision before that time.
In order to keep the line moving in an efficient manner, please stay in your vehicle. If a child needs assistance, a staff member will be on hand to assist.
WALKERS
If your child is a walker and you want to accompany your child to school, you can walk them to the front doors/main entrance. Staff will be on duty to make sure all students get to class safely.
For a variety of reasons, parents are not able to walk their child to their classroom. We will have staff on duty to make sure all students get to class safely.
SPECIAL DAY TO WALK YOUR CHILD TO CLASS
Kindergarten: On the first day of school, August 21st, kindergarten parents are welcome to walk their child to their classroom. If you prefer not to do so or are not able to make it, it’s okay as we will have caring staff members on duty making sure our kindergarteners get to class.
Grades 1-4: We know it can be hard to say goodbye, but we encourage our older students to walk into the school on their own. However, on your child's specific Staggered Start Day, you are welcome to walk them to their classroom.
DISMISSAL
WALKERS
Walkers are dismissed from one of two doors, depending upon the direction they are headed. Our RED walkers will be escorted by staff and will walk towards the crosswalk at Creekview Drive and Kentucky Circle. Our BLUE walkers will be escorted by staff and will walk towards Creekview Drive and Trophy. In both situations, they are dismissed to the crossing guard or other staff member on duty who will help them cross the street safely.
Please do not come to the front of the building to pick up your child out of the walker line; you will be required to go into the building and sign your child out with the office staff. Please wait off of school property by your child’s designated crosswalk area if you prefer to walk with your child.
BIKE RIDERS
Parents are expected to discuss safe riding practices with their children. Kindergarten and First Grade students are not permitted to ride bicycles to school alone. Bike riders will stop at the bike rack and get their bikes. There are bike racks available for our RED and BLUE walkers/bikers. We asked that students walk their bikes to either the RED walker crossing guard / staff member or the BLUE walker crossing guard / staff member. From there, they may get on their bike and ride safely home.
CAR PICK UPS
The pick up/drop off line is located in the back of our building by the playground. This is the safest and quickest method to use to pick up your child. The pick up line loops through our side parking lot and takes you to the back of the building. This area gives us more space to load cars and allows for a smoother dismissal process.
In order to keep the line moving in an efficient manner, please stay in your vehicle. If a child needs assistance, a staff member will be on hand to assist.
The back lot will not be open until approximately 3:30 each day.
WALKING PICK UPS
You are not able to park in the side lot (north lot) and walk up to get your child as there is too much traffic. If you do not want to wait in the vehicle pick up line, please arrange with your child to meet you on one of the side streets close to Northwood Elementary. If you wish to do this, your child becomes a RED or BLUE walker depending on where you plan on meeting your child. You will want to practice this with your child so they understand where to meet you.
